Why not? Well known Christian preacher and positive
thinker Norman Vincent Peale (who authored The Power of Positive
Thinking) promoted many affirmations such as:
- I can do all things though Christ who strengthens me.
- I am sailing on the river of wealth.
- Everything is getting better every day.
Peale
would even promote this affirmation with non-believers. The Bible is
full of references to thinking positively so if you are a Christian and
have been thinking of incorporating affirmations into your life - go
right ahead.
One thing you may find is that some affirmations
might butt up against some of the teachings of your faith. For example:
If you are desiring riches and are affirming wealth related
affirmations but your Christian teachings have indicated to you that
being rich is a sin, or wrong, or not to be desired then your
affirmations may not do much for you.
Should this \'affirmation
vs. Christian belief system conflict\' happen simply examine the inner
belief system you have about the particular subject and ask yourself if
you can take on a different paradigm and not challenge your faith. Or
you might be up for a bit of a faith challenge, it is really up to you.
Some
Christian belief structures are more self-empowering than others and
you may find that you need to seek out one that promotes personal
power. Persons who participate in the Word of Faith movement are often
taught affirmations type statements to say to themselves as part of
their daily devotions.
Have fun with your affirmations, whether you have a structured faith system or not.
