By chance, one of the uploaded videos was seen by one of the marketing managers from the famous So So Def record label, who was impressed by what he saw. He brought the Canadian teenager to the attention of R&B superstar Usher, and the battle to sign up Bieber sparked a bidding war between several major record labels.
Bieber released his first single in the summer of 2009, when he was 15. It was an immediate world-wide hit and his debut album also went platinum in the USA when it was released later in the same year. The young singer quickly picked up a huge number of loyal fans, who were attracted by his youthful good looks and catchy pop tunes. The fans, generally girls younger than the star himself, have the reputation for being fanatical about their idol and go to extreme lengths to follow his career and find out where he is going to be at any given time. The fans have been dubbed The Beliebers by the media, and they are a vocal and ever-growing group.
Justin’s fans have been known to go to extreme lengths to get to their idol, including sleeping out all night on streets before he makes a personal appearance or travelling around the world to see him perform on tour. There are tears when he doesn’t win Grammy awards, and some of the more extreme fans have even been known to make death threats to Justin’s girlfriends.
Bieber’s management are wise enough to know that the teen idol image has a limited life span and as such they are doing as much as possible to maximize Bieber’s exposure before the fans start to grow up and move on to other bands and types of music. The image that Justin Bieber is portraying is that of the clean cut, clean living boy. His management team is careful to keep his public image protected, and their young star is not allowed to do anything which would put his clean cut image in jeopardy.
Whether or not Justin rebels against this sort of close management as he grows up and matures remains to be seen, but the key to a long lifespan in the pop charts is for the artist to grow and mature with their fan base. At the moment, Bieber’s profile is at its highest, helped in no small part by his relationship with Selena Gomez, star of one of the most popular programmes on the Disney Channel.

Since the advent of pop music, teenagers have plastered their bedroom walls with posters of the artists they like the best, and this is still the case nowadays. Justin Bieber posters are everywhere, and a true fan will not be satisfied until her bedroom wall is completely covered in them.
Posters range from the small magazine sized to much larger artwork, and there are even life sized Justin Bieber posters available. Posters aren’t to everyone’s taste though, and the marketers have jumped on the Justin Bieber bandwagon to produce everything imaginable with the star’s image on them.
