Women are the ones mostly going for plastic facial surgery according to well documented statistics. However, men have also become frequent candidates. Among the features most men want fixed include wrinkles on the face, sagging facial skin and noses. Previously, it was rare for a man to undergo facial plastic surgery. Unlike women, men prefer procedures that take less time to recover so as to allow them go back to their busy work schedules.

One of the most preferred maxillofacial surgery procedures is botox. Though women are highly associated with it, men have taken it up. This facial plastic and reconstructive surgery method makes use of several injections to paralyze wrinkle causing muscles. The maxillofacial surgery is aimed at correcting crumpled brows common to men’s faces. It takes around four months for the affected area to heal.

Men are mostly affected by loss of hair. This is caused by a combination of factors. A surgery facial implantation by an experienced maxillofacial surgeon may result in full restoration of balding hair in a matter of months. The surgeon takes strips of skin from the scalp where hair has grown. He/she then divided it into smaller graft pieces which are then implanted into the balding spots. Eventually hair grows on the grafted areas. The patches from which these grafts are taken also get to grow hair.

The success rate of these surgical procedures, and the lengths with which men go to procure them, go a long way in defining what is facial surgery and giving it a place among other medical procedures. Men simply want to look younger or age gracefully. Neatly manicured hair, together with a smooth face are just some of the features that accentuate a man’s look.

Rhinoplasty, which is plastic facial surgery meant to reconstruct the nose has also been much sought after. It involves reshaping of nasal bone and cartilage. The nose may be widened or narrowed depending on the natural formation. Through maxillofacial surgery, nose deformation can be corrected. Part of these may involve adjusting the area size between the lip and the nose. While we may not get into details here, it may take months to a few years to fully recover.

Damaged facial skin can also be treated by use of laser technology. The skin may have been damaged through sunburns or other dermatological illnesses. By use of ultraviolet rays, the damaged layer is vaporized allowing for a new skin layer to replace the affected part. This has been the most common plastic facial surgery method preferred by surgeons. It is highly effective and takes shorter time to heal.

We cannot fail to mention something about side effects. Most surgical procedures do have post operative side effects. Patients may react to drugs administered to reduce pain. Botox injections may cause paralysis if excessively used. Other effects include intense pain on the face, nausea and general weakness of the muscles. In extreme cases, permanent hair loss or damage to the skin may arise.
