HCG Diets: Not Just another Fad Diet

If you are trying to lose weight, you have probably already tried or read about a fad diet that promises you super fast weigh loss without any real hard work or strain on your part. These fad diets promise that you will lose weight in less than 30 days and all you have to do is follow the diet, pop some pills and watch the pounds melt away. These diets work for a short time but the weight that is lost is easily regained and much more. You end up feeling worse than you did before. If you have found yourself in this situation before, you can be sure that HCG diets will not leave you this way.

HCG diets are not just another fad diet. HCG diets are diets that demand a change in your lifestyle and assure you of long term weight loss if they are followed to the letter. HCG for weight loss was first developed by Dr Simeons. The aim of the diet is to allow you to lose a maximum amount of body fat in a few weeks while maintaining high energy levels for your activities during the day.

HCG diets are not your regular low calorie diets. It is a four phase diet that will help you achieve results in less than four months if followed strictly. You will first have to figure out your weight loss goals. Once you are sure of what you want to achieve and are fully committed to completing the program, you may embark on the first phase. In this phase, you are encouraged to eat foods high in fats. This stage prepares you for the second phase when you will consume a maximum of 500 calories a day. During the second low calorie phase, the fat consumed in the first phase will be your primary source of energy.

The low calorie phase in the HCG diets is not a starvation phase. You will get to eat fruits and lots of protein. You will even be allowed to eat bread (Grissini or Melba toast), non fat cottage cheese and skimmed milk. There is a comprehensive list of the foods that can be eaten during this phase. There is also a list for vegetarians. It is important not to deviate from the list. If you do, you will take a longer time to see the results of your diet.

The low calorie phase is where all the weight loss occurs. To supplement your low calorie diet, you will be taking HCG drops three times a day for six days a week. It is important to skip one day to prevent the development of immunity to HCG during this period. Weight loss experienced in this period is fast. Be sure to keep track of the weight you lose everyday during the period.

The third and fourth phase of the HCG diets help you reintroduce regular foods into your diet and ensure that you keep the weight off in the long term. Success in this diet requires sacrifice and a change in your lifestyle. However, the results are well worth the changes you make.
