A 100 dollar deductible is fairly standard, although there may be some plans that have a higher deductible in exchange for lower monthly payments.
A third consideration is what percentage of expenses will be paid after the deductible is met and whether there are any exclusions for services that will not be covered at all. Most providers of student health insurance have plans that pay between 80 and 100 percent of eligible expenses, depending on which plan is purchased.
Finally, students should read the policy to see if there is an exclusion for preexisting conditions. If there is, it is usually between six and 12 months, though individual policies can vary considerably.
