Failing Invitations: 5 Causes You Should Look Into

So your invitations generally suck. No one is going to your events and you are just wasting valuable resources in your custom invitations. Do not get too depressed. The solution here is to get at the root of the problem with your invitations. Let me give you a list of the common causes that you should look into. These might be the problems that you should find solutions to with your invitations. Once you solve these issues, you might be able to get back on track with those invitations.

1. Bad quality paper – One of the basic problems that you should look into is the paper quality of your invitations. If you used cheap quality paper that is thin and easily damaged or distorted then you have one big issue already identified.

Cheap and bad quality materials of course generally results in invitations that look cheap and of course are not particularly effective. People ignore and do not take seriously the invitations that use cheap and bad quality materials. So if you used those on your prints, you might want to go for better materials in your next batch.

2. Lack of “event” value to the reader – Another thing that might be missing in your invitations if they fail is basically the reader value. The event must have a real value to readers if you ever hope to encourage them to go. This value must be present within the message of the invitations to make them effective.

So make sure that you describe and illustrate exactly what benefits your readers will get when they go to that event. The value must be there and obvious if you want your invitations to succeed.

3. Lack of distinct details – Invitations sometimes fail because they actually lack the precise content that readers need. You must understand that readers are pretty judgmental about invitations. If you do not have all the details of the event neatly laid out for them they probably won’t even bother going to the event or take the invitation seriously. So be sure that all the relevant details that readers WANT to know should be within your invitation content. The more details the better.

4. No apparent author “authority” – Trust is something that you must establish when it comes to invitations. If you cannot illicit trust and do not project the author’s authority within the invitation itself, then most readers will be wary of trusting your invitations. That is why it is important to see and check if you are indeed projecting that authority.

The best way to do this is to add in logos, certifications, as well as real verifiable contact information that people can see and check. This allows your readers to really verify that your invitations are authentic, giving them that assurance to trust the invitation and trust the event that they are being invited to.

5. Bad encouragements to respond – Finally, you should understand that all invitations require a statement that encourages people to respond. From the pleading “Please go and share with use...” to the formal “Please confirm your attendance by....”, the choice of line for these encouraging statements is crucial.

Make one wrong move and you probably will cause the reader to get seconds thoughts about going forward and confirming their attendance. That is why you should be careful with your encouraging words. Without that, your invitations will undoubtedly fail.
