If you are sending the note to an aunt, you can write, “Dear Aunt Sally”. If the person is not really a related to you in a personal way, you can just write the first name and you can discard the “Dear” in the heading. After all, this person may not be really dear to you but since they did something for you, they ought to be thanked. This will show how thoughtful you are.
3. In your message, you can start with phrases like, “I would like to thank you...”, “Thank you very much for…” or “I just wanted to thank you for…”
4. It is now up to you to convey your appreciation after the initial phrase like why and how much you appreciate their gift or their effort in doing something for you. You can also tell them what you will do with the gift or how it will help you. If you are new parents and you receive cash gifts from family and friends during your baby’s baptism, you can tell them that the gift could be the seed money for your child’s educational plan or something like that. It should be no more than two sentences.
5. End your message with well wishes, such as “God bless you!” if you are a Christian. But if not, find an appropriate personal closing that does not have any religious inclination.
6. Send you card right away. Thank you cards should be send within two weeks from the gift was received. But if you are thanking people for being there for you in times of sorrow, they will understand if your note of appreciation will be a little late. They know that you are still grieving and could not attend to such matters right away.
